More and more people are becoming attracted to organic products, may it be food or cosmetics. This may be because of the growing awareness to the adverse effects of unpronounceable chemicals in the body or the repercussions in the environment of their manufacture and disposal. However, does the threat to one's health really exist in terms of using chemical intensive cosmetics? We only use these products on our skins without ingesting them. Just think of it this way, how does a nicotine patch work? Through skin absorption. Also, from the moment you wake up you are already lathering chemicals to your body, you will most likely apply more chemicals for touch ups and at the end of the day, you will also wash your face with chemicals. Is this the price that we are willing to pay to look pretty? Not anymore with the arrival of chemical free cosmetics.

Health stores, organic shops in malls and all-natural counters in drug stores now present these alternatives to the consumers. They are either labeled as environment-friendly, all-natural , organic, pure or chemical free. They are also usually packaged with some nature-themed artwork. But how can we be sure these are, in fact, organic? In the US, is there any regulation on using the label organic or natural?

The answer is a huge no.

Given that, how will one be assured that one is using truly organic beauty products? Meaning, why shell out more than a couple of dollars just so you use the same toxic materials on your face? Why use chemical free cosmetics that are not really organic in the first place?

Unfortunately, since there are no laws safeguarding consumers on labeling products, there are only two things that a consumer can do in protection. One is the consumer can arm himself or herself with as much information as she can, so as to know how to read the ingredients portion of cosmetics. This precautionary method is not something that most of us can do, it takes time to research and ask professionals in understanding compositions of cosmetics. This leads us to the second thing a shopper can rely on, which is to check if the products have official recognition from a certifying body.

Certifying bodies are kind of like the police of organic product making. These organizations are independently working using strict standards in deciding if a product is indeed all-natural. They monitor the product creation from how the raw materials are grown, reaped, stocked, moved and finally processed. If the merchandise passes through rigorous criteria through all of the steps in construction, then that is the only time that the certifying body marks the product as authentically organic.

So if you want to be assured that you are in fact, about to buy a real organic beauty product, check out if it has a certification of authenticity, it would also help a little if you read on real organic cosmetics' composition. It may take some time on your part but what are a few minutes of reading time spent over the reassurance on having bought real chemical free cosmetics.
